What happened to the photo uploading? No size selector!

  1. Thanks for the update. I'm crossing my fingers the future updates will knock our socks off! :)

  2. any word on this yet? i haven't updated my blog since may due to the lack of image size selections. and my video upload has NEVER worked. i am in the EXACT same boat as hudson2001. i do most of my updating from my phone with pics and its been a HUUUUGE hassle with pics being the wrong size. the pic option worked PERFECTLY before -- i TOTALLY feel hudson's frustrations.

the promise of answers and fixes happened a couple of months ago and i'm STILL having issues. any updates yet?

  3. The latest news on this can be found at
    https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-iOS/pull/1794#issuecomment-49181674
    and
    https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-iOS-Editor/issues/14

The short version is that its still being worked on, and waiting on a few things to be sorted out. Video support probably won't return before the 4.4 release of the app.

Wish I had better news for you.

  4. i tried the uninstalling the app, reinstalling -- NOW I CAN'T EVEN ADD A SITE - OR LOG INTO IT ON MY PHONE FOR THAT MATTER. i mean i'm logged into my WP account on my phone, but it won't let me add my site. and the pass/user should be the same as my WP.com account, right?

months without my art blog. MONTHS. here's to high hopes of an incredible update :/

  5. @dakay,

I don't wanna take this thread on a tangent since its topic is primarily about media, but

i mean i'm logged into my WP account on my phone, but it won't let me add my site. and the pass/user should be the same as my WP.com account, right?

It most cases, yes. However, if you've enabled two factor authentication then you would use an application specific password.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/#application-specific-passwords

But you said you were already signed in, so I'm not sure if that's helpful. For WP.com accounts, the app should automatically find all of the sites tied to your account, you shouldn't need to manually add one.

If something's not working maybe start a new thread so we don't take this one off on a tangent?

  6. it suddenly worked a few days after this last post.

but now i can't even upload pics.

"upload failed: request not found (404)"

    don't know what that means

  7. Eric:

I use WordPress exclusively for an iPhone maintained photo blog. I inadvertently updated the WordPress app and would like to go back to a version of the app where it allowed me to specify image sizes. How can I do that?

    Glen

  8. Glen, i think we all wish for that version.

  9. Just a little bump to see if there's any news on the image size selector being added any time soon :(

    Thank you.

  10. @ Ricard Torres

I answered in your other thread also. No new news about the image size selector, and, sadly, still no firm date on an updated media feature.

  11. Is there some sort of work around in the meantime that would force all ios picture uploads to medium or small?

  12. PLEASE. i agree with lagreca.

i deleted and then loaded the WP app 5 times. now i can upload again! but they are still HUGE.

there HAS to be a way to set it to just medium until the selector returns

been waiting months for something to work out with this

  13. sadly pathetic, really. at least in the old version i could choose to upload at 300 pixels.

  14. also, on my phone, everything shows up in the preview like it's properly sized. on my computer, horrendously sized and overlapping into links.

  15. The revamped media feature we want to bring to the app is still a ways off. In the meantime, we're looking bringing back an image size selector in https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-iOS-Editor/issues/297

@hartleg, @dakay, @Ricard Torres, @lagreca, @Mr. Bingley, and anyone who I might have overlooked: thank you for making it clear how important it is to have this feature in the app.

  16. any chance of a timeline as to when we'll get those features back?

  17. @dakay That ticket is targeting the 4.6 release.

  18. @hartleg, @dakay, @Ricard Torres, @lagreca, @Mr. Bingley

Just wanted to drop a quick note that version 4.6 of the app has been approved by Apple and should be available from the App Store shortly. In this version, if you look in settings you'll see that the Optimize Image setting has been replaced with a sliding control that will let you set a max image size. If you don't see the update in the App Store, just check back a little later. It sometimes takes a while for Apple to update the store for everyone.

We're continuing to make improvements both to the editor and to the way it handles media. We have some new features we're currently testing and a few more in the works. Its exciting stuff that I think you'll really like! If you'd like a sneak peek at what's in store take a look at the conversation over at https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-iOS-Editor/

  19. Thank you for the update Eric! That will be a welcomed change to things. The collection of "intermediate" [i.e. optimized for the blog] photos on my phone can soon be a thing of the past.

    Glen

  20. Woo-hoo! Once I was able to find the slider setting it seemed to work! thanks, now this is *actually* usable again!

  21. thanks again ERIC and WP team!

i have been updating ALL of this collected data from MONTHS back.

quick question though, should i be concerned if it says "update failed" when i try to edit old posts? when i go to the live site everything looks updated but the app tells me its NOT UPDATED or "UPDATE FAILED" rather.

should i be concerned? i mean at least its updating anyway

  22. AAAND of course it no longer works now... Am I doing something wrong?

  23. @dakay

quick question though, should i be concerned if it says "update failed" when i try to edit old posts?

Definitely! That should not be happening.

when i go to the live site everything looks updated but the app tells me its NOT UPDATED or "UPDATE FAILED" rather.

If I understand correctly, you open a post, make some changes and click update. Then back on the post list you see the failed message. However, the changes were actually published to your site. Is this correct?

  24. CORRECT ERIC^

except NOW with the update on january 5th, pictures don't upload anymore
