Sharing Icons Not Displaying Properly

  1. When viewing a blog post in the iOS app Reader the sharing icons at the bottom are grossly enlarged, so much so it makes them unreadable. I am using Jetpack's sharing function.

  2. Would you be able to link to a screen shot so we can see what you're seeing?

    Hey Eric,

I did a little more digging and it seems this was three posts on one day. All the rest of the posts, well the one's I checked anyway, don't display the sharing icons at all.

Before I ask you to look at this, am I correct to assume that reader is using my RSS feed? If so, then I think I need to look at Feedblitz and how my feed is set up.

    Thanks.

    Bruce

  4. Hmm. That's a good question. The reader in the app doesn't talk directly to your blog's RSS feed. Instead it gets its data via an API from WordPress.com and I'm not familiar with all that happens there -- I guess I have homework now!

Checking how your feed is set up seems like a good thing to look at, if for no other reason than to mark it off the list.

  5. I made three posts to my site today. None of them have shown up in the Reader.

I took a look at the feed and I didn't see anything that should be causing this. I also noticed today that not only are the sharing icons grossly enlarged and unreadable, so are smilies used in the post. I can send you a couple of screen shots if you would like to see what I am seeing. Please let me know where to send them.

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks for the follow up. You could post links here or you like you can email me at "mobile at automattic dot com".

  8. Hey Bruce. Sorry about that. We've shuffled some email addresses around and I missed the memo about it. Please use "mobile-support at automattic dot com" instead.

  9. Thanks for sending the screenshots Bruce. They were very helpful.

Regarding the very large social/sharing images showing up at the bottom of the post: The reader tries to size all the images in a post to match the width of the screen. In the case of these smaller images, it probably shouldn't do that because the experience is quite obviously bad. This is something we'll work on improving.

In your email you mentioned sometimes the images in posts are not showing up, and that you're viewing via your iPad. That sounds suspiciously like a bug we're aware of and have it on our todo list to get fixed:
    https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-iOS/issues/458

Lastly, about the syncing issue, I'm not sure what might be happening there. If I were to make a guess (and don't hold me to this) I'd say it might be that the WordPress.com service that looks for updated content is only looking at your blog once or twice a day and its only after this service runs that the Reader in the iOS app will have updated content to show.

Hoping this is helpful! Thanks again for the email.
