Self hosted blog one.com - can't log in via IPad & IPhone app

  1. I have a self hosted blog on one.com using WordPress 3.7.1. When trying to log on via the IPad and IPhone app it doesn't work.
    The url is petercederholm.com.
I also have one wordpress.org and wordpress.com user, when trying to direct it to the above url, it doesn't work.
    Appreciate comments and help!

  2. Do you see an error message? What does it say?

Can you try enabling the Extra Debug feature and sending us an activity log capturing any errors that occur?
    http://dev.ios.wordpress.org/extra-debug/

If you can't get past the sign in screen you can still access the settings/support screen by tapping on the info icon in the top right corner of the sign in screen.

  3. Thanks Eric,
It says, though in Swedish "Could not login, could not find a WordPress installation on the address".

On the link you sent, it's only working for version 3.8.4 or later, mine is 3.7.1 and managed through one.com. This is the login page:
    http://www.oneclick.petercederholm.com/wp/wp-login.php

Is the problem related to the one.com hosting the WordPress blog and that they work with an old verison. The question is then what I should do, in an easy way, since I'm not an IT expert. Below is the log file from today:

    Thks Eric

  4. Thanks for specifying the URL of your site. On the sign in screen, try entering this for your sites URL:
    http://www.oneclick.petercederholm.com/wp/xmlrpc.php

This tells the app the specific location of the xmlrpc.php file it looks for in order to communicate with your blog.

  5. Thanks Eric,
    Now it works!

  6. woot!

  7. I'm having the exact same problem, I'm trying to add a self-hosted site to the app and it stubbornly claims there is no site at the URL I'm providing.

    So far, I've tried:

    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/wp-admin
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/wp-login
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/wp-login.php
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/xmlrpc.php
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/wp/xmlrpc.php
    http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/public_html/xmlrpc.php

I've been ultra-diligent in entering my password every time, so I know that's not the problem. Is the app broken?

    Thanks,

    --Jaycee

  8. Hi Jaycee,

The app communicates with your site via the xmlrpc.php page. In order to use the app with your site, this page must exist, and function correctly. I'm seeing a 404 error when I try to view http://www.bloomingfaeries.com/xmlrpc.php, which suggests either the file is missing or something is not configured correctly.

Try temporarily disabling plugins on your site to see one might be causing a conflict. If you still can't connect, you might contact your web hosts support staff for assistance determining why your site's xmlrpc.php file isn't accessible.

  9. Hi,

I'm not sure if this is along a similar line - but perhaps you can help. I'm also running WP on an external site - http://www.theperelsons.co.za

But in the app, subscribers are not given a Comment / Like option in the reader. Is this because it's self hosted or is there a way to enable that?

I noticed on the xmlrpc.php page it says:

XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.

Is that related? Is there a way to fix that?

Shout if there's other info you need - and thanks in advance!

  10. Thanks for the responses, guys. I should have mentioned that I had checked to ensure the XMLRPC.PHP file was present, though I have no idea how to configure it. I'm not ultra-technical and "properly configuring" that file (whose existence I wasn't aware of until last week) seems like a whole lotta trouble for an app I don't want that badly. I appreciate the help, but I uninstalled the app and will just keep using my browser for all my WordPress needs--it works well enough.

    Best,

    --Jaycee

  11. Hi jayceeknight,

I'm sorry to hear the app isn't a good fit right now. If you haven't yet disabled the app, you can try disabling your plugins on your site temporarily to see if there's a conflict - but I understand if you aren't prepared to try that at this point.

Either way, I hope we see you back on the app in the future!

  12. Thanks Zandy I'm afraid the app is long gone. I was trying to install it to see if it would help me resolve a completely different problem. When I realized that just installing it was going to be a problem itself, I decided to uninstall it immediately. Experience has taught me to avoid creating new problems for myself, especially if I don't know whether it will fix my original problem.

I have instead spent time on my original issue and have found a solution to that instead. ☺

Thanks anyway for taking the time to follow-up.

  13. Oh I'm glad that some good came out of it!

    Take care jayceeknight :)

  14. Hi everyone!

    I have the same problem.

I noticed on the http://promotenserveis.com:8008/xmlrpc.php page it says:

XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.

I try to disable all plugins and still don't work but when I disable the theme it works!
I don't know why the wordpress theme do that xmlrpc doesn't work. What can I do to solve that?

    Best,

    Rafa M.

  15. Hi Rafa,

A theme is essentially a plugin, so something with how your theme is interacting with events is disabling XML-RPC. You'll need to talk to your theme author on why this is happening, and if they can fix it up for you.

    Best of luck!

  16. Hi Zandy.

I'm the theme author and finally I've been found the issue. In the functions.php there are two white spaces that was loading before html code and do that file xmlrpc.php breaks down.

    Best Regards,

    Rafa M.

  17. Ah-ha! The dreaded whitespace in the XML-RPC problem! I'm so glad you were able to get that sorted, Rafa.

    Cheers!

  18. How did you find the two white spaces that were the problem? and did you just remove them to get it working?
