photo's not uploaded

  1. I have a self-hosted WordPress blog (2.7.1), and the latest iPhone WordPress app. The application seems to work well, with one exception: photo's are not uploaded.
The post (or page) shows the correct HTML code for the image and the media library shows the entry for the image, but the image itself is not uploaded to the server.

I checked the known issues list, installed the libxml2 patch, changed the permissions of the uploads directory to 777.
When dumping the xml rpc call to a text file, it looks like it contains the data for the image. But... I am not an XML-RPC expert... :-)

Environment: Mac server, Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.8. The Apache log is not showing errors.

  2. A little more info: the installed libxml2 patch is supposed to replace < with "<", etc.
I put the xml-rpc messages in a log file, all looks fine except this section:

    <member><name>description</name><value><string>Test
    <p><a href=&quot;http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/l-1600-1200-4543d7cf-77e0-4a31-be3c-f4ba5f5348b3.jpeg&quot;><img src=&quot;http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/l-1600-1200-4543d7cf-77e0-4a31-be3c-f4ba5f5348b3.jpeg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; width=&quot;300&quot; height=&quot;225&quot; class=&quot;alignnone size-full wp-image-364&quot; /></a></p></string></value></member>

Not sure why the patch did not replace these...

Related, message for John Bickerstaff (and anyone else that is interested!),
More than happy giving you an account for troubleshooting. What is the best way to proceed?

  3. And some more info: the libxml2 patch is now working, but same result: the image is not uploaded.
(FYI: the libxml library I am using: 2.6.16, PHP 5.2.8, the libxml2 patch did not kick in for that version)

The section I mentioned earlier now looks as expected (but the image itself is still not uploaded):

    <member><name>description</name><value><string>Test
    <p><a href="http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/l-1600-1200-d45b3f4a-463d-458b-9246-f4925cb13cfc.jpeg"><img src="http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/l-1600-1200-d45b3f4a-463d-458b-9246-f4925cb13cfc.jpeg" alt="" width="300" height="225" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" /></a></p></string></value></member>

The image itself is being transferred in the xml-rpc message:

    <member><name>name</name><value><string>l_1600_1200_D45B3F4A-463D-458B-9246-F4925CB13CFC.jpeg</string></value></member><member><name>bits</name><value><base64>/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/4QBYRXhpZgAATU0AKgAAAAgAAgESAAMAAAABAAEAAIdpAAQA
    AAABAAAAJgAAAAAAA6ABAAMAAAABAAEAAKACAAQAAAABAAACgKADAAQAAAABAAAB4AAAAAD/2wBD
    ...
    jj2/Wsjwpfi50O1Y3CoQpUqRkjBrSup5xY3Qs7wrP5RKkp8pxzzWL3NE7q58/wAlncg/NDKD0wVI
    Oal0+Ke3vYXaJ12sPvDGBXXy65fSPuaeLOcgrAv9arNqVzK7b7o5xwfKTr+Va8yM2j//2Q==</base64></value></member><member><name>type</name><value><string>image/jpeg</string></value></member>
  4. ahum... PEBCAK... ;-)
The setting for upload path was incorrect. Oops! Fixed that one and now all is fine.
And oh... the " etc in the xml-rpc message is supposed to be like that.
