Notifications when blogs update

  1. Is it possible to change the settings so that you receive notifications when blogs you follow post something? Currently, you are only notified when someone replies to, likes, reblogs, or follows your posts.

  2. Hi @Gnod5,

There is not currently a way to receive push notifications when blogs you follow post something new. We've talked about a feature like that but have no immediate plans.

You *can* edit your settings to receive emails when a blog you follow posts something new: https://wordpress.com/me/notifications

    Hope this helps!

  3. Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for push notifications as not all blogs include an email function. And the emails I do get fill up my inbox. But the reader will work for now. I hope this function will soon be included!

  4. That is really unintelligible! On which planet do the developers reside? I'm impressed by all the other functionality of this heavyweight Wordpress client, but notifications for new blog post is the first and only thing I would install an app for.

The subscribe option to get notifications by email is only available on wordpress.com, not in self hosted version (no idea why). There are plugins that fill this gap, but there is another problem with email: most people under 25 in my country (Netherlands) still have an email address but they don't check their mail regularly because they don't use email to communicate with each other.

If Automattic wants the Whatsapp generation to follow Wordpress blogs, there has to be a simple notification app, without the need for a wordpress.com account and the complicated linking mechanism. Otherwise you will loose them to Facebook, Twitter etc.
