Long shot: photos no longer upload in v5.2 on iPhone X iOS 11

  1. Yes I know 5.2 is ancient, but it's the last version that allows me to input a time of post which I use all the time. It's been working perfectly on my iPhone 6s with iOS 10 forever and it even worked on my 6s with iOS 11... But now that I've upgraded to an iPhone X, I can no longer upload photos. Can anyone help me out? It lets me select the photo (s) from the camera roll and then looks like it's uploading but almost immediately stops and nothing is there. Well, it almost looks like a blank photo/placeholder but if you try to go to the HTML view it warns you the media failed and it will delete the media. If you go ahead, it's just a bunch of &andsp or whatever that code is that it typically puts between photos.

Is there a fix? Please tell me there's a fix. Pretty pretty please.

  2. I have the activity logs that I can post but I have no idea if there is any identifying info in it.

  3. And tonight I tried again and it worked perfectly. And then the very next blog post I tried failed in the same way.

  4. Howdy @hudson2001.

I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble. Version 5.2 was a long time back and I'm having a bit of trouble remembering the feature you mentioned. The app currently has an option to set the publish date and time on a post's Options screen, but maybe you're referring to something different?

Would you be willing to give the current version of the app a try if you could keep version 5.2 as well? We have a public beta program and that version of the app can be installed side by side with the app store version. We announce new versions at http://make.wordpress.org/mobile. There you can see descriptions of what's new or changed and also find a link to the beta program.

Many many things have changed since version 5.2. You might find the brand new editor and all the updated media support helpful.

    Hope this helps!

  5. I know 5.2 is waaaaay old and I will likely have to give it up eventually...but I wanted to hold out as long as possible. :)

That said, let me clarify a bit as I realize I was slightly off. What I actually am missing is the post listing format--see old post here way back in - gasp! - 2015!

This is what I see now in the old version: https://i.imgur.com/fl7gLmP.jpg

I love that I can see sooooo much more information! I can see 8 posts, including whether it's draft, posted, and the date/time. In the newer app, you can maybe see one post because it just shows you the most current post including pictures! And it doesn't show the date/time!

I would be totally willing to try a beta app! I am pretty sure I will have to upgrade regardless, though, since I cannot get photos to upload. That said, I did try the new app on my husband's phone and it does work well--I just hate the post list screen. I don't know why everything has to be so media-filled. Maybe on an ipad where you have lots more screen real estate, but a phone has limited space so I don't want to see all that extra stuff. #getoffmylawn LOL

  6. Also, I signed up for the beta but when I try to install it, it tells me "You already have this app installed. Do you want to replace the current app version with the test version? You may lose the app's data." The only choices are to Cancel or Install.

Ah ha! Thanks for the reminder. I remember now. :) A compact form of the post list is still something that we talk about from time to time but I'm afraid other priorities have kept it an item on our wish list. We haven't given up on the idea, but its also not currently on our road map. Sorry :(

Arg! I'm afraid there was some confusion on my part. My and a colleague's understanding was it would be a beta version that could be installed side by side, but Apple is apparently not treating it that way. I just tried myself and got the same result. Sorry for the confusion.

  8. No worries! I truly appreciate the response. :)

While I fully understand that my issues are not pressing, I have to ask if you might have any idea about why the photo upload feature would suddenly stop working? I'm guessing it's directly related to something in the iPhone X? (I am 99.9% sure I used the app with iOS11, but honestly it was only maybe five days that I had iOS 11 on my old phone before I switched to the X, and it's sort of hazy).

  9. > why the photo upload feature would suddenly stop working

That's a mystery for me, especially if it was working on iOS 11 on the iPhone 6. If I were to take a guess it would be that something could have changed in iOS 11 that is conflicting with the older version of the app but without resurrecting that old code it would be tough to say for sure. FWIW, I really do doubt the hardware in the iPhone X would be a factor.
