Can’t add blog to share sheet

  1. Hi,

I’ve added seven of my sites (one is Wordpress.com, six are self-hosted) to the WordPress app, and I can post to and manage them normally. However, only four of them (the WP.com one and three others) appear in the iOS share sheet.

And in the WordPress app (latest version) when I tap “Edit” in the “My Sites” panel, I only see those four listed. The + icon is grayed out, so there’s no way to add the other three. I have no idea why those three wouldn’t be showing up.

I’ve been working on one site in particular, and I tried:

    • Updating the site to the latest version of WordPress
    • Disabling Jetpack, since I ran across a comment that this was an issue in the Android app

Any ideas? I have absolutely no idea what the difference is between the blogs that appear in the share sheet and the ones that don't. Maybe an XML-RPC thing?

  2. Hi there, Chris.

Thanks for all the info. It really helps us troubleshoot. :)

What I believe it's happening is that you logged in with your WordPress.com account and only 3 of your self-hosted sites are connected to this same WordPress.com account. What you could try to do is either connect those other blogs to WP.com or manually add them from the My Sites panel.

For the latter, however, you don't need to tap on Edit. Once you tap on My Sites, right next to Edit you should see the same + icon but this time active. From there, you'll have the option to either create a new site on WordPress.com or manually add a self-hosted site. This should be enough!

Hope that this helps, but let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

  3. Thanks, Eduardo! Handling tech support requests is actually something I do at work, so I do recognize the value of being thorough :)

I went back and turned on the Jetpack plugin for the site I'm trying to post to, and that site appears in the share sheet now. I'm able to post to it successfully; thank you! I'm still confused, though: Jetpack had initially been active when I was having the problem. As I said, one of my attempts at fixing this was turning Jetpack off.

    Couple of questions:

    • Is it true that the Jetpack plugin has to be activated on any WordPress site before that site can be posted to via the share sheet?
    • If so, could this be made clearer in the UI? I honestly thought this was a bug in the app; there was no indication of what the problem or fix was.
    • And also, how do I submit bug reports for the iOS WordPress Shortcuts action? It's behaving in a way that makes my web host think it's under attack.

Thank you again for your help!

  4. Ah, nice to have another support agent around, Chris! :)

At this point, that's right: self-hosted sites are not available when using the share sheet option. However, there is an ongoing discussion on the following link and we'd appreciate any further feedback!

You can use the same link:

And related to that, there's also an open issue for Shortcuts + self-hosted sites, if you have some extra info to share:

Hope this helps! Have a great week, Chris!
