404 error on adding self-hosted site

  1. I've been struggling for 3 or 4 days to get my self-hosted blog re-added to WordPress for iOS 4.6.1 on my iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.2.

    My site is running WordPress 4.1. I was previously connected with the iOS app, but disconnected to see if it would resolve a bug I was experiencing (not updating).

    When I try to add the site in the iOS app, I get a Request failed: not found (404) error.

    If I go to, I appropriately see XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only..

    If I check using, it confirms it can find the xmlrpc.php, but on the second step, I get 404 Not Found Sorry, there isn't a FAQ for this issue. Please seach within the forum or post a new thread. If you aready solved this issue you can propose a fix by clicking on this link.

    If I manually check with curl -is -H 'Content-Type: text/xml' --data '<?xml version="1.0"?><methodCall><methodName>demo.sayHello</methodName><params></params></methodCall>' '' && echo, I appropiately get

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    Jetpack is running appropriately.

    All of these things make me think that xmlrpc is working appropriately, just that WordPress for iOS is having a hard time for some reason.

    After several days, finally figured it out while composing this post. I changed my WordPress password, and it instantly started working in iOS. I presume it must have to do with encoding a special character or something? My old password includes @, &, %, and ^. My new one contains different special characters and let me through first try. Weird.

  2. Awesome write up and I'm glad to hear you got things working. Interesting that clues point to special characters in the password causing a conflict.
