Wordpress.com login errors

  1. To provide more constructive feedback:

    * This is a blog hosted on Wordpress.com (japanlifeandreligion.com). Please note this is not a self-hosted blog.
    * The version of your iPhone system software: 4.2.1
    * The version of WordPress for iPhone you're using: 2.6.4

    Problem: After registering my blog successfully on the app, if I try to download comments or blog posts, I get "Bad username/password". Deleting app and trying again doesn't fix. This actually did work up until a few days ago. I ran my blog through W3C validator and had no UTF8 errors, but I do have a lot of non-english content on my blog (is that the issue?).

  2. Hi,

    go to the device Settings and click on the WordPress item. Then, set your WordPress.com credentials within the username/password fields. This should solve your issue.

    Thanks for the reply but no dice. The Wordpress settings section of my iPhone shows my login name, but the password field is blank. That might explain it. When I entered my password, it doesn't fix the issue. Same error appears. Is it not passing it on to Wordpress.com somehow?

  4. Also, I tried wiping out my phone and doing a fresh install, but got the same behavior (password field initially blank, inputting doesn't solve issue).

    I wonder if you are using weird characters within your password.
    could you please try setting a simple temporary password for your WordPress.com account?
    - change your WordPress.com password using a simple phrase without special characters.
    - go to the device Settings and update your password with the new one.
    - try to add your blog within the app.

    No, the password had only letters and numbers. I changed it anyway, and this did not help. Same problem: "Communication Error, Bad username or password"

    One more thing: in the iPhone settings, under Wordpress, the password field is empty again. Is the input getting lost somehow?

  8. Ok, one more update: I tried making a second blog (was going to anyway), and it worked!

    So, I wonder if there's something about my main blog (japanlifeandreligion.com) that's choking the app and causing the second login failure. I use a lot of obscure Japanese characters and such (maybe there's a 'gremlin character'?), and perhaps that's the issue?
