New App crashes on initiation
-
I have iPhone 3GS running 3.1.3 and use Wordpress 2.9.2.
I just installed the new Wordpress for iOS app. Now, when touching the icon to launch the app, I get the gray launch screen for about 4 seconds, then I get returned back to my homescreen.
I have done this a number of times, even after a shutdown, and I cannot get back into my Wordpress app.
Any guidance on what to do without completely deleting the app and trying again?

Same here: iPhone 3G, 3.1.3, WP 3.0.1, self-hosted

I have the iPhone 4, and while the new app does not crash, it gives me a communication error and does not recognize my username and password.
-
Same with me on 3GS
-
Same here, iPhone 3GS
iPad works fine though ;).
cheers,

Edit to my original post (I was the first post).
I have an iPhone 3G, not an iPhone 3GS.

The WordPress listing in the App Store has a note that says they're aware of the problem. They suggested deleting the app from the device and reinstalling. (Also said they were working on a bug fix, but gave no timeline.)
Deleting and reinstalling worked for me on the iPad. I had to reconfigure both sites I manage, but at least the app is working now.

I deleted and reinstalled twice, but to no avail on 3gs
-
I have the first IPhone and it dose the same thing.
-
same here...I've reinstalled once and it didn't work. anyone else had better luck? what's wrong? :(((
-
Deleting and reinstalling did nothing for me. I even tried reinstalling the old ver. 1.21.2, but that didn't work, either.

Crashes on start-up on my iPhone 3G, wordpress blog self hosted

I have iPhone 2G and it does exactly this, have tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice. I'm comforted by the fact that others are having the same issue (ie it's not me) but a response from Wordpress to say that they hear us would be nice at this point.

+1 — and pretty steamed about it. iPad 64 GB, wifi only, iOS 3.2.2. (7B500), WordPress app 2.6, going to any WordPress 3.0.1 site, crashes on launch every time. tried restarting iPad, same result. see my other post above in this forum. who tested this before release?!?!? definitely not ready for primetime.

Hey guys, sorry you're having problems with the app. Version 2.6 has an unfortunate issue that can cause users running iOS 3.1.3 or lower to experience crashes. We have a bugfix version, 2.6.1, that resolves this issue. It has been submitted to Apple, is currently in review, and should be out any day now.
Thank you for your patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Chris,
i appreciate a moderator getting back to us, finally. and that an update is in the Apple iTunes App Store pipes. however, people started reporting this the day it was released, september 30th, it's now october 12. i reported my error with the iPad & iOS 3.2.2 on october 6th. this is the first official word we've heard on this. was there nothing that could be said before this in the forums from wordpress, automatic, or the general moderators here? we're out there languishing (languishing, do you hear me?) with a crashy app, no way to roll it back, and no word, not even a, “we hear you and are working on it!” for 13 days. is anyone paying attention here? i also posted my own report on this forum, which also hung out there unanswered until today (i will respond to you in kind in that thread).
also, what platforms/iOS versions was this tested on prior to release? the app store details on the app say it was iOS 4.0 tested, compatible with iOS 3.1.2 (ha!) or later, and for the iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad. yet anyone firing this app up for the first time on an iPad with iOS 3.2.2 or an iPhone with less than 3.2.x iOS software would have surely seen this crash. this begs the question, what kind of testing is being done to make sure these apps are ready for primetime before release?

From October 2: Version 2.6 Issues
-
that's nice. maybe a link to that post, the likes of which i'd been searching for, could've been posted in this thread, say, oh, back on october 2nd?
-
Version 2.6.1 is now available in the App Store. Please check it out and let me know if it works for you.
-
I started this thread. Relieved to find that the app now opens. That's all I've checked for now. Thanks very much for the update!

It's working now, thanks Chris!

Thanks for being so patient everyone!

Don't fool yourself, most of us have lost patience. There are a lot of angry and frustrated users out here who had a working app a few days ago and now have to suffer through 2 buggy versions that are a big step backwards. I'm still amazed that the Apple App store can be offering a one star broken app for 2 weeks that the developers know has serious bugs that will stop the user from mobile blogging. Call 2.5 2.6.2 get it up and we'll be happy.
FYI I won't be going to 2.7 in a hurry!
-
Right. So we'll continue to improve the app, make adjustments where necessary, and let user feedback guide the direction of the app.
We'd love to hear from all of our iOS users - especially the angry and frustrated ones - to know where the issues are and where we need to focus.
-
You need to focus on making it work. Thats all - dont do new things like video or whatever until we all can at least do the basics - which is logon, type a post and publish it - This aint happening at the moment - so I agree - can 2.5 2.6.2 - upload it - tell us and were all running again
-
cstandley - i, too, as stated above, was pretty steamed about this, and took chris to task for the lack of communication here in the forums and the obvious hole in testing prior to release (tho' as chris correctly points out, he did post an update on the situation on the http://ios.wordpress.org blog two days after release). we hashed it out, both here and on my other thread related to this and came to an understanding. i even offered to help, if he or wordpress are interested, in updating forum info.
i just downloaded 2.6.1 and it is working fine on my iPhone 4 w/ iOS 4.1 (8B117) & my iPad w/ iOS 3.2.2 (7B500). that should put this to bed until the next version (tho' i would suggest a more complete set of release notes as to what was fixed in the iTunes App Store, other than apologizing for the inconvenience — this is “open” source, after all ;o) ). asking it to be rolled back to 2.5.x is not a feasible solution, and i'm not sure is too easy to do in Apple's iTunes App Store guidelines. you can't just petulantly stomp your foot and demand he roll it back, he's working within a whole set process here. plus, have you actually tried 2.6.1 before making this demand? it actually works, man.
this is an open source project done as a labor of love by all who think wordpress is cool, and for those who want to use it freely to make a living as web developers & consultants for their clients. chris is the only person developing, running the blog & checking the forums, far as i see. let's all progress forward, move on. we've got a version that works.
'nuff sed.
-
Yes - its easy to point out that it is a labour of love - And I agree Faddah - but 2.6.1 does not work - honestly - have a look at the other post on the same or similar topic. It actually doesnt work, man.
But as you say - its free and Im not doing the work so Ill stop complaining and unsubscribe.
