Communication Error - Bad user name or password

  1. Awesome! I'm reluctant to leave my email address here, so send me a message with your email using one of the contact methods on my Gravatar: http://en.gravatar.com/frsh and we'll get you added to the Beta Team.

Also, if both of you are comfortable giving me access to your blogs that will help debugging the issue as well. I'll be able to tell quickly if 2.6 will resolve the issue for you or not.

    Thanks!

  2. Chris - you have mail. And access to both of the Bits Are Cheap blogs - the live one installed at the web root and the dummy one installed in a subdirectory as per my message from last month up above here in this thread somewhere. That info is in your mail as well.

    Jake

  3. Chris—you've got mail from me too, as well as admin access to dupreeblue.com. All info is in your email. Thanks!

  4. I too am having this problem. I had this working previously on an iPhone 3GS but now it doesn't. I have recently upgraded to an iPhone 4 with the latest iOS 4.1 and get the Bad user name or password message. I have two self hosted blogs running the latest version of Wordpress.

I have removed and reinstalled the app

    What to do?

    Bernie

  5. I've just updated my ipad app with the last version and begun to get this error. The previous version didn't throw this error.

    Any help?

  6. Same problem here. I was fine before the update. I use a Wordpress.com hosted blog. I've checked my username and password multiple times to be sure that I'm not being an idiot (always possible!). My username and password are just English letters and numbers; no odd characters at all.

    M.

  7. 2.6 users: Can you try deleting then reinstalling the app?

  8. I just deleted the Wordpress app 2.6 from my iPhone 4 (all OS updates applied), reloaded it, and the app is now working.

    M.

  9. Thanks for letting us know!

  10. Chris- Same thing happened and worked for me. That being said - and not to come off as angry or upset - users should not have to do this when updating an app. There has to be some technical issue that can be resolved. Just saying!

Thanks for all of your help in rectifying the problem though.

  11. Onlygators, understood. We're making major architectural changes in 2.6 that deal with many elements of authentication, data storage, etc. But there should be no reason for our users to have to go through the steps of delete/reinstall. We'll keep working to make the app better, I promise.

  12. Chris- I am now having problems with the Posts page only of the app. I am getting that "NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 5" that I have seen in other threads. Problem is that I haven't changed anything on my site. Any chance I could get your e-mail so you could help me troubleshoot? I can't close my site or uninstall my theme or anything b/c I run a business that is accessed by a ton of people.

I would REALLY appreciate it. I know it would be going above and beyond. If you don't wish to post yours here, here is mine: adam(at)onlygators(dot)com

  13. Onlygators - Sure. You can find my email address here: http://gravatar.com/frsh

  14. Chris—did you get the email I sent you the other day? I haven't heard back. If not, let me know & I'll resend. Thanks!

  15. Same thing to me, I had two self hosted blog, both became inaccessible after the update.
I tried to set user and password on the blog again with no effect, still no login.
Then I deleted both entries an redefined them, after that it works again.
The problem must lie in the conversion on existing user/password settings.
The apache log gives me no hints about I found only a lot of xmlrpc entries, no errors.

    [30/Sep/2010:19:23:33 +0200] "POST /xmlrpc.php HTTP/1.1" 200 698 "-" "wp-iphone/2.6"

  16. Was getting the same "bad username/password" error repeatedly. Deleted both my blogs and reinstalled them, and now all seems fine.

  17. So... here's what's going on for me. I've been getting the same "NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 5" that many other people are getting. I tried as recent as this morning to upload a post w/an image to my blog (hosted by 1and1) & I failed again. I had a friend give me a l/p to his WP blog that's hosted on another host. I was able to successfully upload to there.

Earlier I went to update my apps & saw there was a WP update. Downloaded/installed it & kept getting "Communication Error — Bad username/password" again. On both blogs. I deleted the app, re-downloaded & re-input all my credentials for both blogs. The errors stopped.

I didn't get a chance to do anything else with it until now, but without changing everything on my server or my WP I was FINALLY able to upload a post with an image to my blog! So whatever changed in the new update fixed my issue.

  18. Same for me. A friend told me the latest update of the app had this problem, and she could no longer log in. To see if it was specific to her, I first checked my existing, old version -- I could log in with all three registered blogs absolutely fine. Then I updated the app. Now all the blogs give me the username/password error. Three different usernames, three different passwords, three different WordPress 3 self-hosted installs.

  19. My iphone app was working fine until I upgraded last night. Now I continuously get the Communications error message.

  20. Apologies. I read further on through this thread and did the deletion and reinstall of the app and it now works. Thanks.
