This bit me, but the fix was trivial. I had a conservative 64M php limit in my .htaccess, removing that for the default from php.ini (128M) did the trick. Thanks for the knowledge, that took me straight to the problem.

I'm still having issues with this, even after reverting back to an older version of the Wordpress app and now back to 3.3.

I spoke with Bluehost.com's Support and this worked for me:

Your php.ini file limits the amount of memory a process can use to prevent performance problems on your site. This error is caused by a process trying to exceed that limit.

To raise the limit, follow these steps.

1. Log into http://www.Bluehost.com.
2. Click on File Manager and choose Web Root.
3. Navigate to the directory your program uses for it's php.ini. This is generally the public_html directory, which should already be open.
4. Right click on the php.ini file and select Code Edit.
5. Go to line 232 and raise the value. If you've customized your php.ini file memory_limit may not be on line 232. In that case you may need to run a search for memory_limit using ctrl+f.

By default your memory limit is 32 MB. Generally you don't want to go higher than 64MB.

If needed you can set your entire account to use the php.ini file in your public_html directory for all php.ini calls. This is done with the PHP Config tool in your cPanel by choosing the PHP5 (Single php.ini) option.

This is most often done when the memory error doesn't clear after raising the value.

Finally it may still be necessary to copy the php.ini file into the folder your script is stored in or it's administration/configuration folder. You'll need to consult the script's documentation to find the needed location.

I'm still having this problem. i ran through the guide. its frustrating me now because i still don't have the ability to upload pictures and have to wait until i have computer access. i figured there would be an app update to fix this by now. i would even just take an old version of the app to install on my IOS devices....sigh

I have been running 5.3 and 256 memory on bluehost and it dic nothing to fix the issue for me.

Problem solved. Just talked with Bluehost.

From the cPanel select "PHP Config" from the "Software/Services" section

Change from "PHP 5.2" to "PHP 5.3 (Single php.ini)"

There is a line that refers to memory limit, but the default of 128M worked.

Hey,

I did some testing today and upgrading to 5.3 to reduce memory is not going to work on PHP level. I don't think that WordPress will use less memory soon or maybe never. I also think plugins also add 20/25% of the memory usage.

I do know you can fix the memory PHP can use at Bluehost. So there is a big change when upgrading to 5.3 that the memory is higher then you have now. You should ask Bluehost about it. That would be the easiest/fastest thing to do.

I installed 3.4.0 on the launch on 6/13. I also installed 3.4.1 when it came out but it didn't fix the problems.

I just tried hitting my site via the iOS Wordpress App and it still logged this:

I have Bluehost for my hosting as well and have this exact problem. Site was synching fine until June 10th.

After upgrading to Wordpress 3.4 (server) I can't connect via the Wordpress iOS app. I also started seeing problems posting with ifttt.com.

I am seeing memory problems as suggested but I'm on Bluehost.com so I can't really change how much memory I get.

And YES what you suggested worked. I, honestly, didn't really know what all you were talking about it went out of the realm of my knowledge as I said so I just sent my ISP a link to this thread so the tech support bro could read what you said and help me with it.

I'm glad to report that after doing what you said the app is now working properly. WELL - It opened and my posts loaded. I'm now going to try to edit and post an article just to make sure everything is under control. But yeah, looks like it's A-OK.

Just to clarify on what appears to be the problem, and what changed in the app:

In 3.0, we've optimized the network library to minimize bandwidth and network requests.
That should bring a better experience on 3G networks and less of your data plan wasted.
The downside of this, is that savings create extra load on the server.
And it seems some shared hosting accounts can't take the extra load with the default configuration.

For instance, when you refresh posts:

* In 2.9, we have a request to ask for categories and another for the latest 20 posts
* In 3.0, we request categories and 40 posts on the same request

Once we figure out what the exact problem is, we can take steps on future versions to just optimize when we know the server can handle it

Ok well, this is honestly beyond my scope of knowledge so I've asked all these various questions of my host provider. I'm hopeful that this will all be fixed on a future upgrade? Because this still seems to me like something going on with the app. I mean it was working and now it isn't and we're having to do all this stuff. I'm hopeful this will help in getting it all fully resolved. :)

What I've found so far indicates that this problem might be the server running out of memory.

Can you check the server error logs and see if something pops up? Also raising the memory limit (if your hosting allows it) might help

Well, it's a server error, so there's something about the hosting. Something must have changed in the way the app makes requests that is triggering those errors, but hosting plays its part in it

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the hosting provider. I have 5 WP sites within the same hosting account and am only having this issue with one of the 5 sites.

I tried the wordpress app for android, after the same problem as you are all having, and on android my site works perfect, I could post photo, update post etc. So this problem must be a ios app problem not wordpress, right? I was hoping to use this feature alot on a coming trip.

Yeah, this is making me crazy. I'm so annoyed but it. It's probably something simple and to take this long is redicilous. Is there an alternative program?
