Same for me. A friend told me the latest update of the app had this problem, and she could no longer log in. To see if it was specific to her, I first checked my existing, old version -- I could log in with all three registered blogs absolutely fine. Then I updated the app. Now all the blogs give me the username/password error. Three different usernames, three different passwords, three different WordPress 3 self-hosted installs.

So... here's what's going on for me. I've been getting the same "NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 5" that many other people are getting. I tried as recent as this morning to upload a post w/an image to my blog (hosted by 1and1) & I failed again. I had a friend give me a l/p to his WP blog that's hosted on another host. I was able to successfully upload to there.

Earlier I went to update my apps & saw there was a WP update. Downloaded/installed it & kept getting "Communication Error — Bad username/password" again. On both blogs. I deleted the app, re-downloaded & re-input all my credentials for both blogs. The errors stopped.

I didn't get a chance to do anything else with it until now, but without changing everything on my server or my WP I was FINALLY able to upload a post with an image to my blog! So whatever changed in the new update fixed my issue.

Same thing to me, I had two self hosted blog, both became inaccessible after the update.
I tried to set user and password on the blog again with no effect, still no login.
Then I deleted both entries an redefined them, after that it works again.
The problem must lie in the conversion on existing user/password settings.
The apache log gives me no hints about I found only a lot of xmlrpc entries, no errors.

Problem is that I haven't changed anything on my site. Any chance I could get your e-mail so you could help me troubleshoot? I can't close my site or uninstall my theme or anything b/c I run a business that is accessed by a ton of people.

Onlygators, understood. We're making major architectural changes in 2.6 that deal with many elements of authentication, data storage, etc. But there should be no reason for our users to have to go through the steps of delete/reinstall. We'll keep working to make the app better, I promise.

Chris- Same thing happened and worked for me. That being said - and not to come off as angry or upset - users should not have to do this when updating an app. There has to be some technical issue that can be resolved. Just saying!

To be honest there's no way I can tell for sure unless you were to give me low-level access to your WP install as a user so I could step through what's happening. I'd much prefer for you to have the latest version, 2.6, which should be out very soon. From there we can see if your issue is resolved and if not, you could join the Beta Team and we could test further.

Do you think our host might have something to do with it? I'm hosting my blog on 1and1, but I did my own install from the download off the WP site.

I can upload an imageless post from my iPhone without issue, but once I try & put an image in I get the 500 error & communication error bad name/password. I've chmod'd to 777, & images are set to not resize.

Edited to add: I see that the images I've attempted to upload appear in "/wp-content/uploads/2010/09", so the error is happening somewhere after that.

Okay, seeing as it's quiet here I figured I would do a little more debugging to help the WordPress app developers. I went and enabled logging in xmlrpc.php on both of the new sites I created - the one in the root and the one in the /wp subdirectory. I also had to add logging code to /wp-includes/class-IXR.php to capture the output from xmlrpc.php.

Here's what a proper draft post from the WordPress iPad app looks like (password/user redacted). Input is what is sent by the WordPress app on the iPad and Output is what the server returns for the WordPress site located at http://www.bitsarecheap/wp (which works):

As can be seen above, the problem appears to be that the WordPress app just doesn't send the newPost command at all, and for the subsequent getPost, doesn't supply the necessary access information, which is what's producing the bad user/password error.

Methinks this is definitely a WordPress app problem that needs to be addressed soon...

Again, I'd be happy to provide necessary access to one of the moderators to both of those test blogs.
