I think I might be on to something.

Turns out that the function to reply to a specific comment is either inactive or broken on my setup - because it LOOKS like you can reply to a comment from the adminmenu (on a computer), but it just posts it like any other comment. My theory is that it is disabled but is still active from the adminmenu, which would explain why the app has trouble. If I found out more, I'll tell you.

Same problem. Seems like the app (3.5.3 on mini iPad running iOS 6.1.3) doesn't communicate with the server or something, because any replies I make on my app don't show up on my site.

Not sure if it's related, but "notices" don't clear on my app -- I have to go through a laptop to the full site if I want to approve//reply/delete any notices or comments.

I have the same problem I'm using ipad2. They had this issue last year too.
My blog is brightmist.co.uk I'm getting that error since updating.
I decided to try and re add my blog, but it failed.

It is obviously an issue with the app as my site is fine itself

Hope this is fixed soon

hi, i have the same issue here as well. No issues with entering via laptop or desktop.

Here's my blog:

When I try to access my dashboard with the IOS app, i can actually see the comments but not the posts nor pages.

Is this something to do with plugins that I had installed or the themes in which the blog is running under?

I got this error to. It just straight up says "Sorry, something went wrong posting the comment reply. Please try again." when you hit the reply button, every time for everybody.

I run a Multi User site with a few plugins Varnish and Cookies for Comments, but don't know how it would effect it. Any ideas? Couldn't even google this problem....

I'm using an iPhone4, 6.1.3 and latest Wordpress iOS app 3.5.3

Hi,

In (way) earlier versions of WordPress for iOS we used to have a specific view for comments per post (or page). iirc. You would open an article in the app and in the tab bar there was an option to view the comments for that specific post. I would *love* to see this view reinstated. We get over 100+ comments per day and it'd be extremely useful if you just could monitor the comments for specific articles. There is an open empty icon space in the bottom option bar which would be very nice for this ... ;-)

I haven't been able to reply to comments for the last two WP for iOS updates. I can moderate comments in every other way but reply.

I'm using iPhone 4 with latest iOS 5.1.1 and WordPress for iOS 3.1.2.

Cant even add my self hosted Wordpress blog using Wordpress iPhone app. Type in URL, Username,and password and it spins like its thinking for a minute and the crashes. Over and over and over..... Anyone have any help for me?? Have all newest versions. Worked fine up until about a month ago. Stopped working so I uninstalled and reinstalled and now this is what I get.

Using Wordpress app on iPad - when I touch "comments" to go approve comments, etc, the whole thing crashes and shuts down. I have to restart the app to get back in. The comments feature does not work at all, and crashes every time since last app update.

Right, I meant to log in to wp-admin and check the comments there. Look for any that have strange characters in them.

I should add that this occurs only on my iPad, but not in my Droid phone which are using the same app I believe.

I cannot access the comments at all since as soon as I open them it tries to refresh. The act of refreshing causes the app to crash and knocks me out of it. I can access Posts, Pages, etc. Just not Comments.

It's probably a comment that the app isn't handling very well. You can try temporarily trashing a chunk of the comments, then refresh the comments in the app to see if that's true. If you are able to narrow it down, can you send the contents of the comment to us here?

A really annoying bug I thought had been eradicated a few versions ago has crept back into the latest version. When you open WP and then click on Comments and it tries to refresh the comment page, the app closes. No way to work on comments using this app.

Pls get this fixed ASAP. It's terribly annoying.

I have iOS 5.01 on both my iPhone and iPad and I'm getting the internal server error every time I try to look at the comments in the app. No amount of removing and installing the Wordpress app on either device or updating the app (version 2.9.1) helps.

The reinstalled app has now reverted to it's buggy behavior, bouncing me out when the comments try to refresh.

Not ready for primetime. How can the developers not be able to duplicate this behavior when so many of us suffer from it?

I just uninstalled the app & then reinstalled it. So far it's performing as it should. It appears to me that this may have something to do with communications between the app and the server because when it was failing I would get an error message saying it was busy because it was trying to sync with the server. But that's a guess.

So this may correspond to what Feline says above, though for me I did it through reinstalling the app.

For whatever it's worth, this went away after I performed the iOS5 update. I doubt the OS itself is a fix, but maybe the reinstallation of apps that happens during the udpate process did the trick.

We're about to submit 2.9.1 to the app store which will hopefully fix that. We haven't been able to reproduce the crash, but added a few things trying to prevent it from happening

I've got the same problem which behaves in precisely the same way you describe. Is there any way to report such bugs beyond here?

My Droid using the WP Android mobile app has no such problem.

This issue does continue to occur for me on one of my iOS devices (an iPhone4), but another iPhone in the household with the same configuration does not have the issue when accessing comments on the same site. I also have an iPod Touch that doesn't manifest this crashing bug. Perhaps there's something specific to certain devices?

This was an issue for me a few days ago but as of right now, the issue has disappeared. I think it's still worth reporting though.

I'm using the latest version of iOS with the latest version of the WordPress app. I noticed that when I tried to check comments within the app, it looked like they were loading and it crashed. I continued to do this with the same result. Two comments were in the spam queue which I believe may have been the culprit to the app crashing. I've since cleaned out the spam comments via the back-end of my WordPress site on the PC and so far, the app is behaving.

Could it be possible that some spam comments in the queue can be structured in such a way to cause the app to crash?

I saw the crash happening live for a user the other day. If he waited until posts sync was completed before switching to comments it didn't crashed. Also, visiting a different blog "fixed" the crash.

I tried to get a crash log from his phone but there was nothing there.

Can you check this and see if you can send us a crash log?

Have you tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it again? That might freshen up the local db and get it working again for you.

I just upgraded to the latest version (2.9). It crashes each and every time I switch to comments and begins to sync. I've tried wi-fi connections (thinking it may be related to the # of comments, over two thousand over the past 3 days) as well as cellular.

Here is something that is still missing (or perhaps I've never been able to figure out).

On the iPhone (not iPad, that's OK) when you are viewing the full list of scrollable comments on the blog that you see when you first open Wordpress for iOS and then click to go into one specific comment just to view it in its entirety - how do you go back to the full list of scrollable comments again?

There is no "back" button or "blog" button at the top of the individual comment screen. Only up and down arrows which now only let you view comments one by one.

Funny thing is, I do remember a while ago when Wordpress released an iOS update they actually put in a back button under the individual comment..but then shortly after another update was released and it was missing again :(
