I recently updated to WordPress to 3.4 beta1. Now whenever I try to use the app it comes up with "Blog returned invalid data". I tried everything in the FAQ. In the log of the application it says that there is a problem with "line 712 in pluggable.php". All that is on Line 712 is "
if ( ! $user->exists() )
". Could someone please tell me what is wrong and how to fix it? My website is wobaly.com.

I'm getting the same error message. I upgraded to 2.9 several weeks ago and noticed the error message so I went back to the earlier version that I had (2.8 I think).

After the new iphone OS update my older version started showing me the error message so I upgraded to 2.9. Tried different theme but that didn't work, turned off plugins with still no luck and now I am at a complete loss. Here's the website wataugaroads.com. My webdesigner looked at the markup code validator and said that there don't appear to be any issues causing the app not to work.

Any suggestions?

<b>Fatal error</b>: Allowed memory size of 104857600 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 80 bytes)

So I temporarily upped the memory limit in wp-config.php to 200M and it worked!

@bobman024 -- @bobman024 -- I wonder if the XML-RPC response message contains invalid characters that the app can't recognize. If you still are experiencing the error iwith the app version 2.9, you can go to the Settings app > WordPress and enable "Extra Debug". With that setting enabled, you can take a look at the app log file and send it to us. Be aware that the log might contain information you consider private, such as post contents, user names. So I recommend you take a look inside the log file before sending it and make sure you don't send us anything secret :)

Running into the same issue as @lightrail I think. I run a multisite install and was able to successfully use the app as a Super Admin. However, one of our Authors wanted to use the app, and is getting "Blog returned invalid data"

Using current version of WP 3.2.1

iPhone app version 2.8.3

Site is sodomojo.com and http://sodomojo.com/xmlrpc.php is working properly

Again, I was able to log in as a super admin, but even when I made the user a super admin, it did not work

Any thoughts on why this might happen?

Hi
I face the same problem, and I spent a lot of time to finaly find it. (wireshark + ad hoc)

My problem is probably not the same than the one you face. Mine is hosting dependent.(franceserv.fr)
I discovered that the iOs application sent the xmlrpc POST query without informing the Content-Type.
This simple thing made impossible to add my blog in the iOs application.

Here, is the existing TCP DUMP:

POST /blog/xmlrpc.php HTTP/1.1
Host: tonyo.fr
Accept-Encoding: gzip
Content-Length: 106
User-Agent: wp-iphone/2.8.3
Connection: keep-alive

<?xml version="1.0"?><methodCall><methodName>system.listMethods</methodName><params></params></methodCall>

and here, is the working TCP DUMP:

POST /blog/xmlrpc.php HTTP/1.1
Host: tonyo.fr
Accept-Encoding: gzip
Content-Length: 106
User-Agent: wp-iphone/2.8.3
Connection: keep-alive
Content-Type: text/xml

<?xml version="1.0"?><methodCall><methodName>system.listMethods</methodName><params></params></methodCall>

hoping this could help the people in the same case. (and perhaps for a quick fix, Am I dreaming too much?)

@daniloercoli - Thanks for the link and the tip. I discovered that the WP plugin Adminize was what was causing the issue. I deactivated it and the app worked. I reactivated it and the error reappeared (FYI, the error "Wrong datatype for second argument" is what was generated).

Hope this helps you or others in the future. Thanks for helping me solve this issue!

@phinx -- The mobile app communicates with your blog using the XML-RPC endpoint.
You should check the XML-RPC endpoint of your blog using an xml-rpc debugger. As a first check, you can only ping the URL of the XML-RPC endpoint at http://planetpov.com/xmlrpc.php in your browser.

@daniloercoli - Thanks so much for your quick response. I used the w3c validater earlier today and my site passed with no errors against doctype XHTML 1.0 Transitional. I did add a new plugin tonight which appears to have a few errors that I can fix swiftly (ampersand issues).

My question is, which doctype is your app relying on when reading my site? Though it tested as perfect in XHTML 1.0 Transitional, when I then tested my site against different doctypes (html4.01 and html5), it showed errors.

Knowing which doctype to conform to would likely help me resolve this issue. Thanks for your help on this.
