I know this has been requested before, but I wonder if there are any current plans to support adding images to a post while offline?

I'm planning a trip to a foreign country, where I'll only have internet access occasionally while on WiFi. I can compose a post if it's only text, but currently there's no way to add an image without the app being able to upload the image to the server before adding the image tag to the post. I can understand how it'd be more complicated, because the actual image filename on the server isn't known until the file is uploaded, but I wonder if a placeholder name could be used until the post and all attached images were uploaded to the server -- then the placeholder image tags could be updated with the actual filenames.

I'm sure this has been discussed - are there any other issues making it more complicated than what I'm thinking?

Thanks,

Hi all!

V 3.5.x has various problems with buttons that only have images as captions, when it comes to using them with VoiceOver, the built-in screen reader for the blind. They need to have an explicitly associated label to be spoken other than png name gibberish.

At an attempt to fix this, I've created Ticket #1601 and attached a first patch to it. I welcome feedback.

Due to build problems, even though I went by the readme.md file, I could not test this patch myself yet, but this code compiles.

No uploaded photos can be automatically centered as far as I can tell. Each picture I upload I have to go in and manually change the HTML from alignnone to aligncenter(at least I've taught autocorrect that alignc is the same thing). And if autosave works its horrible new magic (which I've read elsewhere that's it's going to be less aggressive in an update) it often changes it back to alignnone.

Also, I'd love to be able to tell it to always upload photos at a max of 500 wide (regardless of height). I thought it took its settings from the actual WP blog settings but mine are set to 500 and the app doesn't give me that choice. If I manually input 500x375 (which the 375 is a guess, but I want the 500 wide), it apparently thinks the 375 is what I want so I get a picture that is like 480.

It would also be great to be able to upload and insert multiple photos at a time like the desktop version now allows.

None of these are life or death, but just annoying because I use them ALL THE TIME. Thanks!

Many of these are not new (the earliest post I came upon about requests on handling images was in 2010), but they remain in the wishlist of at least one user :):

My ideal image upload: upload full size (or selected size), link to large thumbnail (i.e. selected size), display medium thumbnail (i.e. smaller selected size); in this workflow I can preserve the original resolution (in case there is a need to regenerate thumbnails - we never know how well future tech can handle larger images), while speedup loading with small thumbnail, while allowing larger view (e.g. lightbox). For people with limited data subscription (or speed), they will need the ability to select smaller size upload. Currently, WordPress iOS let us select a size and that's the size gets uploaded as full and the same being displayed, and the same being linked. I observed that WordPress iOS can detect setting of thumbnail sizes, which will be useful in implementing handling of thumbnails. (By the way, WordPress dashboard is surprising not implementing link to selected thumbnails.)

Ability to add caption, title, alt to images (uploaded or going to be uploaded).

Ability to select between alignnone, aligncenter, alignleft, alignright. At the moment, there is no selection - alignnone by default.

It will be cool to be able to enter class, e.g. to use our custom class for inserted media by typing in dialog box (without having to write out the full html styling code).

Once selecting the upload image action, there is no way to cancel without having to select the size; well, we can cancel once it is uploading. Not important, just an issue of user friendliness.

When we decide to cancel a composition (i..e not to publish, neither to save), the uploaded images are not removed. (Well, it is the same with WordPress dashboard. But I thought this is a useful housekeeping practice.)

Looking forward to WYSIWYG interface.

Most of the above can be done by manually editing the html code, however that is probably not the best thing to do on iPhone.

Those said, thanks for developing the app!

1. Open the WordPress app
2. Go to Posts
3. Tap the + icon to add a new post
4. You're now in the Post Editor. In the bottom toolbar you'll see a Pen icon (this is the editor), then a Gear icon (this is Settings). Tap Settings.
5. If your blog supports Featured Images you should see it at the bottom of this screen.

Hope this works.
